The Scientific Council is the advisory body of the Elcano Royal Institute, which advises the Board of Directors and the expert team of the Institute to guarantee the effective fulfilment of its foundational purposes, especially those related to research, the dissemination of the work carried out, and the institution’s external relations. It is composed of distinguished Spanish and foreign personalities, from the academic, political, diplomatic, business and media fields, who have in common a proven knowledge of International Relations
The Council meets periodically, at least once a year, although its members meet regularly with the expert’s team and collaborators in Working Groups organized by specific areas, to prepare the reports and studies they deem appropriate
The composition of the Scientific Council ensures representation from global think tanks, researchers and policymakers, academics from Latin America, and serving Spanish ambassadors. Its members are assigned to the 10 key areas of the research agenda, have signed a Council Member Charter, and the Council comprises researchers from the last three generations. The Scientific Council is gender balanced
The Elcano Royal Institute remembers with gratitude and affection Xavier Batalla, Juan Antonio Carrillo Salcedo, Concepción Escobar Hernández, Milagros Hernando, Ramón Armengod López de Roa, Francisco Pérez Muinelo and Francisco Rubio Llorente, who with their generosity and experience contributed decisively as members of the Scientific Council to the strengthening of our institution
