ABOUT JUAN

Juan Duarte Cuadrado is Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Spain to the United Mexican States.

A Spanish diplomat with an extensive career, he has previously held numerous positions of responsibility, such as Second-in-Command at the Spanish embassies in Addis Ababa and Bratislava. He was also Deputy Consul of Spain in Paris, Deputy Director General of the Human Rights Office, Counsellor at the Spanish embassies in Bogota and London (in the latter as responsible for monitoring the Brexit process) and Counsellor for Cultural Office of the Spanish Embassy in Buenos Aires.

In Madrid, he was Head of the Cultural Programmes and Agreements area at the State Secretary for Ibero-America and the Caribbean (SECI), and Director of the Human Rights Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. From 2018, until his appointment as Spanish Ambassador to Mexico, he was Director General of Spaniards Abroad and Consular Affairs.

He holds a Degree in Law from the CEU San Pablo University and entered the Diplomatic Career in 1994.
