Alfonso Casani Herranz is a Lecturer in Political Science at the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) and scientific coordinator of the Centro de Estudios del Toledo Islámico.
He is a member of the Taller de Estudios Internacionales Mediterráneos (TEIM) at the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Research Group on Arab and Muslim Societies (GRESAM) at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and the Complutense Research Group on the Maghreb and the Middle East (GICMOM).
He has been a researcher at the Fundación de Cultura Islámica and an associate professor at the CIEE Madrid Global Institute. He has participated in research projects such as ‘The Transnational Politics of Recognition in the Libyan Civil War’, funded by the British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grant for 2019–2020, and ‘Crises and processes of regional change in North Africa. Their Implications for Spain”, (CSO2017-84949-C3-3-P) (2018–2021), GRESAM, University of Castilla-La Mancha.
PhD in Humanities: Geography, Anthropology and African and Asian Studies from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM); Master’s degree in Contemporary Arab and Islamic Studies from the UAM; and Inter-university Master’s degree in Diplomacy and International Relations from the Diplomatic Academy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting from the UAM and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the UNED.
