DESCRIPTION

J-SAFE is a project funded by the European Commission and coordinated by the Italian Ministry of Justice. It involves 8 partners from 7 European countries.

Its goal is to explore prison radicalisation, the related strategies or risk assessment tools already implemented in order to identify gaps and lacks in preventing radicalisation that leads to terrorism in European countries’ prisons. Different types of radical phenomena are explored: radicalised inmates, prisoners convicted for terrorism-related crimes, foreign fighters, foreign terrorist fighters and hate crimes. In this sense, J-SAFE supports the prison and probation staff mato pronounce informed decision sentencing on cases of radicalisation at all stages of the procedures through the use of a coherent set of programmes and risk assessment tools.  and an integrated flow of information among multilevel and multiagency stakeholders.

The result of the project is twofold. First, J-SAFE will support the prison and probation staff by developing a coherent set of programmes and risk assessment tools to prevent and manage radicalization in prison. Second, the project will contribute to simplify the information flow among institutions and prison staff, promoting a multi-agency collaboration.
