For the twelfth year in a row, the Elcano Royal Institute publishes its annual edition of the policy paper that analyses the prospects for the international panorama and the short-term challenges for Spain’s external action.

2024 will be a year marked globally by the continuity of the two wars that were active last year and the various key elections that will decide whether the disruptive Donald Trump returns to the White House and whether the traditional consensus in favour of advancing EU integration breaks down.

Spain faces a new parliamentary term with the goals of avoiding that internal and external polarisation may destabilise the core of foreign policy and being able to address structural challenges: climate, innovation, security, etc.
