The current situation in the Korean Peninsula and the role of the European Union

Elcano Royal Institute

After years of growing tension in the Korean Peninsula, this trend has reversed in 2018 as the concerned governments have shown a stronger determination to explore a diplomatic solution to their security concerns. These diplomatic efforts have already led to several high-level meetings among the involved parties whose more substantial outcomes are the Declaration of Panmunjom and the joint statement signed by the leaders of the DPRK and the US after the Singapore Summit. In this context, this seminar gathered experts from the Six Party Talks countries and top European think tanks to discuss ideas on how the European Union and its member states could contribute to that process.
