Senior Analyst and Coordinator of the Elcano Global Presence Index Project


Iliana Olivié is Senior Analyst at the Real Instituto Elcano and Lecturer at the Department of International Economics and Development from the Madrid’s Universidad Complutense. Ph.D. in Economics, she coordinates the International Cooperation & Development research area and theElcano Global Presence Index Project.


Research areas: Her work focuses on global development issues such as international cooperation, economic development and global development finance. Since 2009, she coordinates the Elcano’s project on private sector and development. This line of research have produced six case studies in Dominican Republic, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Morocco and Algeria based on the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI-D) as an analytical framework which integrates economic, political and social impact of transnational business activity.

The second line of research is focused on monitoring the Spanish international development cooperation policy, analysing its strategic orientation –bases, planning or adaptation and contribution to a new global development agenda–, the policy coherence for development and the geographic allocation. The third one recently addressed the analysis of the European international development cooperation, in particular its lack of integration and coordination.

The research area activities have had or have the cooperation and/or support of the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MAEC), the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), the Carolina Foundation, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD ), the European Parliament and the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

She also coordinates th methodological aspects and results of the Elcano Global Presence Index Project.
