The Scientific Council is the Elcano Royal Institute’s consultative body and has the task of ensuring the fulfilment of the Institute’s aims and objectives, especially as regards research, publications, technical consultancy and institutional relations. Its members are prominent personalities from the academic, media and political worlds and other sectors involved in international relations.

The Council meets periodically, at least once a year, although its members regularly participate with other Elcano staff members and contributors in area-specific working groups to produce relevant reports and studies.
