El Real Instituto Elcano es uno de los 50 mejores think tanks de seguridad y relaciones internacionales del mundo -incluidos los de EEUU- siendo el único centro español en esta categoría. Junto con nuestro Instituto, figuran en la lista centros tan importantes como los norteamericanos CSIS, Brookings Institution, Council on Foreign Relations, Carnegie Endowment o RAND Corporation, y los europeos Chatham House, IISS, IFRI, SWP, Clingendael, Transparency International, Egmont, SIPRI o RUSI.

El Global Go To Think Tank Rankings de 2011, la quinta entrega de este informe anual, se hizo público ayer en sendos actos en Washington DC y Nueva York. Realizado por el programa de Think Tanks and Civil Societies de la Universidad de Pensilvania constituye el único índice establecido internacionalmente para la valoración del trabajo de los think tanks.

Además, según el mismo ranking, el Instituto Elcano forma parte, junto a otros centros españoles, de la lista de los 50 mejores think tanks de Europa occidental.

Cuando el Real Instituto Elcano acaba de cumplir 10 años, es una satisfacción comprobar que se consolida globalmente como el centro español de referencia en el ámbito de las relaciones internacionales y la seguridad. Al mismo tiempo,  se ha cumplido otro de sus objetivos fundacionales: contribuir a animar el panorama nacional en lo que respecta a estos centros de reflexión, fundamentales para la vertebración de una sociedad civil relevante.

2011 GLOBAL GO-TO THINK TANKS
The Elcano Royal Institute is one of the world’s  50 best security and international relations think-tanks, including those of the US, and is the only Spanish institution in the category. The Institute shares the list with such world-renowned study centres as, among others, CSIS, the Brookings Institution, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Carnegie Endowment and the RAND Corporation in the US and Chatham House, IISS, IFRI, SWP, Clingendael, Transparency International, Egmont, SIPRI and RUSI in Europe.

The 2011 Global Go To Think Tank Rankings is the 5th edition of this annual report and was released yesterday at two separate presentations in Washington DC and New York.  Produced by the University of Pennsylvania’s Think Tanks and Civil Societies programme, the ranking is the only index of international repute to measure the performance of think-tanks worldwide.

Furthermore, according to the same ranking, the Elcano Royal Institute is included, along  with other Spanish institutions, in the list of the 50 best Western European think tanks.

On occasion of the Elcano Royal Institute’s 10th anniversary, it is a great satisfaction to see it consolidate its global position as a reference point in Spain in the field of international relations and security. The Institute has additionally fulfilled one of its prime objectives: to foster debate in the national scenario and contribute to a firmly-structured civil society.
