In spite of the deteriorating international economic scenario, this year Latin America and the Caribbean will complete six consecutive years of growth, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rising 4.7%. This is one of the conclusions of the 2007-2008 edition of the Economic Survey of Latin America and the Caribbean ‘Macroeconomic policy and volatility’, presented on 27 August 2008.

UNAIDS, the Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS, has issued its 2008 Report on the global AIDS epidemic. According to the publication, many countries have made considerable progress in addressing their national epidemics; however progress remains uneven.
