According to the Country Brand Ranking 2012 Tourism edition, Spain is second behind the U.S. in the global ranking with a very strong rating (AAA) in its Country Brand Strategy (CBS). The Country Brand Ranking is the only ranking that classifies countries according to the effectiveness of their country brand strategies and their consequent impact on GDP.

Según el Country Brand Ranking 2012 en su edición para el sector turístico, España ocupa el segundo lugar tras EEUU en la clasificación global, con una calificación muy alta (AAA) en su estrategia de marca-país (CBS o Country Brand Strategy en sus siglas en inglés). El Country Brand Ranking es el único ranking de marca-país que clasifica a los países según la efectividad de su estrategia de marca-país y su consiguiente impacto en el PIB.

The Elcano Royal Institute will be a part of the "dream team of think tanks" -according to Catherine Ashton- to develop the European Global Strategy. The team includes the main centers of policy analysis from Italy (Institute Affari Internazionali - IAI), Poland (Polish Institute of International Affairs - PISM) and Sweden (Swedish Institute of International Affairs - Ui).

The Council of Ministers approved on 30 March the submission to Spanish Parliament of the Draft Bill on the General State Budget for 2012, which means an overall reduction in spending of 16.9%. The 27-billion euro adjustment aims to reach the objective for budget stability through control spending and increasing revenue.

‘American values differ from those of Western Europeans in many important ways’, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center’s Global Attitudes Project conducted in the U.S., Britain, France, Germany and Spain from 21 March to 14 April, as part of the broader 23-nation poll in spring 2011.

The index is based on interviews, insights and key opinion-makers and consultant’s information collected through social media tools. Canada takes the No.1 spot, followed by Switzerland and New Zealand. Spain is ranked 14.

The 10th annual Transatlantic Trends survey shows that 51% of Americans feel that Asian countries were more important to their country’s national interests than were the countries of the European Union (38%). On the other hand, 52% of Europeans thought that US was more important to their national interests than Asian countries.

A World Public Opinion poll of 19 nations finds that in 14 of them most people favour an unequivocal rule against torture, even in the case of terrorists who have information that could save innocent lives. The four public that favour an exception for terrorists when innocent lives are at risk include majorities in India (59%), Nigeria (54%), and Turkey (51%), and a plurality in Thailand (44%). Support for the unequivocal position was highest in Spain (82%), Great Britain (82%) and France (82%), followed by Mexico (73%), China (66%), the Palestinian territories (66%), Poland (62%), Indonesia (61%), and the Ukraine (59%). The Elcano Royal Institute is one of the research partners in this project.

The new poll of 20 nations around the world finds that none of the national leaders on the world stage inspire wide confidence. WorldPublicOpinion.org - a collaborative research project involving research centres from around the world- conducted the poll of 19,751 respondents in nations that comprise 60 percent of the world’s population, between 10 January and 6 May 2008. The Elcano Royal Institute is one of the research partners in this project.

This website has relevant information and links about the Alliance of Civilizations project presented by the Spanish Prime Minister to the UN General Assembly on 21 September 2004. The National Plan of the Alliance of Civilizations is the Spanish Government intention to translate the specific goals of the project, including them both in its foreign and cooperation policy and in the whole of its domestic policies.
